PLOSIVES AND SIBILENCE

Are fucking annoying especially when you move the mics, eq them and repeatedly tel the speaker not to 'eat' the microphone and they still do!!!! ARRRRGGGGHHHH!

Chess for losers...

So recently at a gig I started playing chess again. They were handing out these magnetic chess boards to attendees and some were left behind. Now since this was a pain in the ass gig I had no problem taking one of the left behind boards. We've been playing at various gigs and I have been playing online and I have realized something... I am completely atrocious at chess. I haven't won a game yet. I'm following basic strategy and everything. I cannot win... at all. If anyone else is really bad at chess and wants to play please feel freee to contact me.

Darkbuster Tour Day 6-Dallas, Tx.

Ok so last night we played in this club Rubber Gloves in Denton, Tx in the middle of an industrial area and in between train tracks with trains going by constantly. Sounds kinda cool, also sounds like it could be kind of shitty... but guess what it was awesome. The club was super cool, great sounding room and the guys and gal played thier best set yet by far on the tour. We mey some cool people who we may see tonight as well since Dallas is only 45 minutes away. Marcus from the Street Dogs made it out to see the show and started a little circle pit action as well...There was also a cool Brit DJ who was playing tunes all night who at the end manged to spin me some good rocksteady tunes. Besides that there was also a spread in the band room. Rubber Gloves +5

Once we left the club Lenny made Danny bleed accidently when they were wrestling over Lenny's brass knuckles which ended up with them bothe covered in blood, but it was funny none-the-less. We all slept in late and managed to score another excellent meal at la casa del Waffle House.

As reported earlier the trip from Denton to Dallas was short so we got into town early, walked around. I checked out a tattoo shop and contemplated new ink but then decided against it. We found a cool vintage store and me and Cam Neely (Capanilli's AKA Scotty, new nick name... I'm not even sure that's the right way to spell his name) got these awesom Billy Joel Storm Front patches, Lenny got a nice Levi's jean jacket and Amy got some t-shirts. We went to get some Mexican for dinner and man was it fucking good, it's rare that all 6 of us shut up and just eat, but the food was that good, now I see why people call it 'real Mexican food' down here. Highlight of the day so far... all the clubs around here paint on their walls posters or names of the bands coming through.
Well time to take a little snooze before the show, post show it's off to New Mexico...

Darkbuster Tour Day 5-On the Road to Denton, Tx.

Alright so it’s been a few days since I’ve posted and quite frankly internet access has been slim to nada. So I am actually just going to write the blogs and then post them when I can… which may be when I am back in Boston.

Pittsburgh, Pa.

I have been given a new name… Richard Shanary but you can call me Dick. We had a great show in Pittsburgh with a lot of people and we sold a shitload of merch which kept roadie Scotty busy. The ride has been fucking cold we’re talking like 3 degrees and it kinda sucks crap hatch. Oh ya the graffiti in the band room was excellent.
We also were graciously given a nice house to crash at, complete with Karaoke and live drums till 6:30am and a really drunk guy... yes he is playing a tom drum with his hands and hugging a weed wacker.

South Bend, In.

Well when we finally made it through the lake effect snow and horrible white-outs we were able to play (note snowy and cold me), the club was huge and hard to find our way around in. Despite there being 80 feet of snow on the ground there was still a decent crowd and we did decent on selling merch. Lenny’s voice went out unfortunately so he had a pretty rough time. Gurley and Amy really came through and picked up a lot of slack. They also have been playing ‘Ronald Regan’ and ‘Some Cunt Sneezed on My Sub’ which has been an excellent change up of the normal set list. So South Bend basically turned into Darkbuster Kareoke and Amy picking up some more vocals.
In cool news my good friend and former roommate Kevin made it to South Bend through the freaking blizzard and got to see the last song. Kevin and I have always been known for doing crazy things when together so we saw this as an opportunity. I decided to split from the band and the bus for the night and head out with Kevin who decided that he would make the trip to St. Louis to see the band there. We were originally just going to go to his lake house, but decided to get ahead and drive to Oak Lawn on the southside of Chicago and crash there. Well then we thought we wanted to keep on drinking so we decided to go all the way into Chicago and to Carol’s in my old neighborhood… it is also open till 5am which was a plus. So I called a bunch of people and only managed to get Steve to come out but that was awesome. So I ended up getting only 2 hours of sleep and a nice hangover.

St. Louis, Mo.

So we make it to St. Louis the next day and end up beating the band by like 2 hours. We ended up driving around St. Louis and found a cool Welsh/Scottish Pub called Dressels, which ad good food, but was cold and we were handed the check before we asked for it even though the pub wasn’t full. Today was also Amy’s birthday and she had cake which was cool however I missed the cake… We were given 7 cases of PBR but they took back like 5 which was weird and not cool. The show however was pretty good, and Lenny’s voice was better. Good system and a favorite board of mine, well not favorite but it was the same board that it in The Living Room in Providence, RI.

After the show we went to Nate’s house for a good party and bar-b-q, everyone there was awesome and there was plenty of food booze and cool people and some random playing of music. Lenny also got gifted a pair of brass knuckles which made him elated. We didn’t end up staying there though we decided to get a head start on the drive to Texas and we drove to Springfield, Mo. Someone who shall remain nameless puked in the bus which sucked and we’re not sure we cleaned it all up because there is so much other shit on the floor from tracking mud in the bus. We also stopped at Kum N’ Go… yes that is the actual name I’ve heard that these exist but never actually seen one until now. Of course I bought a Kum N’ Go coffee mug which makes me happy. So that is all for now…

Red Hot Chili Peppers-Snow

First of all I know this isn't related to Darkbuster at all but fuck you. Secondly I think this is perhaps one of their best new songs Thirdly the video to this is awesome, it almost completely made up of production crew and fans which is pure CLASS. Darkbuster - Asbury Park, NJ; Baltimore, MD; Philadelphia, PA. 1/4/07 -1/6/07

Well well well, three wells and three shows. Club Deep was a typical Club Deep show, very laid back, good time not a huge crowd but a very excited crowd. Joe the promoter down there is a great guy and he brought me to their other club (The Stone Pony) across the street to check out the new sound system that I had read about in some live sound magazine (Live Sound International I think). They have a beautiful system over there a nice room and a great brand new large format mixer (APB Dynasonic). I begged Joe to book us over there so I can use that system... hopefully... We had some sound issues there though, partially an empty room so we had all kinds of standing waves and there was possibly a bad horn in one of the speakers so that was something that had to be contended with but I've dealt with a lot worse, anyways I'm still looking forward to going there again in two weeks to play with Murphy's Law.

Baltimore...

We got to Baltimore and stayed in a hotel downtown that was waaaaay too nice, but somehow we managed (Note Lenny's shock and awe). We took a walk originally looking for crab cakes, then we walked through Baltimore's red light district, no crab cakes but we definatly could have gotten crabs. Once we got out and took a walk down Gay St. (ha ha Gay St.) we found a Hard Rock Cafe and gave up and chowed down there. For a while with all the touristy folks walking around looking at the stuff on the walls we became something else to look at. We tried to look for anything on the walls from any local artists but then we realized nothing good has ever come out of Baltimore.

*Begin Angry Rant*

So we get to the club and do the typical get to the club bullshit, look around get acquainted load in gear. I do my normal introduction to the sound guy, typical formalities, here's how many mics we need what we need for inputs etc. So we are gettign setyp on stage I'm helping the sound guy and all that, I go to step up to the mixer as the band is starting to play and the house sound guy pushes me away and says "GET THE FUCK OUT". This scrawny emo little fucker just pulled a fast one on me. Now I have shown up to clubs and been told that they don't allow traveling engineers for one reason or another, no biggy, it sucks for me but at least they are upfront. This guy just let me think I would have a normal night and then pulls that on me. I had it in my right mind that I should just deck him right then and there but I though better of it and rememberd to put the band first and me second, no need for me to make it so that they can't get booked thiere because of my actions. Not only did that happen but I had turned down a $200 gig for that night in boston to go on the road, in all seriousness the band booked me before that gig so I'd be on the road anyways. Cool club possibly a cool town, unprofessional house engineers.

*End Angry Rant*

Anyways multiple people bought me drinks and gave me smokes so I was calmed down by soothing Budweiser and Marlboro's. (Thanks Brendan from Chicago and the Stabones' roadie kid)

Road to Philly.

We ate at a Waffle House, Gurley and Danny picked nuts off a tree, Amy was enthralled by a piece of tape:

Philly

So we go to Philly in the middle of a parade that went on all day with a bunch of drunk guys in dresses and other oddities... we decided to take a nap. We ate a TGI Fridays which would have been cool except for the rabid roach that ran out of Lenny's menu and across the table... yummy. Over all this was a rather uneventful night, it was the last night that we played with Guns On The Run and it was the last gig for thier drummer so they got a little crazy, and intoxicated. We also found Dewitt's twin with hair in Philly, note the grainy photo. Not only did we see Dewitt's twin but we also saw Danny's twin Pete again, and the guys and gal played a rare live London Town for him which was very cool as well as playing Unseen and Lenny called them the Unclean, then realized that they are on tour in Europe with Bad Religion... oops.

In other news Dave Rat who is the sound engineer for Red Hot Chili Pepper's left me a comment, got my name wrong but still how cool is that? check out his blog here .
